I had and used mchat for a while and like Spaceace I wanted something a lil simpler. I'm more than happy with the Ajax chat that is currently running on my site as are the members and fellow admins :)

I had once been ridiculed by the current author of mchat and accused of not following the edits when installing it on the CA vintage style. I then had to pay him to come fix it for me... I kept a copy of the edits that I had done and a copy of the edits that he had done and there were 8 lines of extra coding set to make it work, that's 8 lines that are not in the install file. Like Spaceace and more than a few other people out there I wont use that chat ever again.

I respect your position but you both are aware the orignal author has been out and the new author is very friendly and his support is spot on and free. I think every author has an arrogance to them, I have seen that in AJAX threads. I also saw it in ealry on Mchat threads as well.

But what is ported?

I assume that ported is to bring inline with phpbb3 as it is currently phpbb2 and wont work as such. I'm sure Spaceace will be able to clarify it better than me.

yes, ported is to make a mod from an older version work.

If you are talking about Mchat, you need to have the latest version of which is very different than the original. I would uninstall the old one, remove the edits by hand and then reinstall the new one. My board has no issues at all.

Ajax is not bad, but it's not for me as Mchat is not for others :)

Latest version and it does work well on 3.08.

Space is likely going to kill me now. He hates this mod as much as I despise Ajax :)
